What is the relationship between donors and the Foundation? Donors may give to a variety of Foundation funds. Many donors give to our Annual Sponsors Fund, allowing the Foundation to use the funds as needed and to ensure continued operations. Individual donors may establish donor advised endowed or nonpermanent "gift" funds or designated endowments. These are pooled and invested by our respected asset managers. Donors advise where to make grants, working in collaboration with our program department. Funds are established with the donor's interest and are often named to memorialize a family. What is the advantage of establishing a fund through the Community Foundation? Establishing a fund at the Community Foundation allows donors to achieve their charitable goals without the overhead, costs, tax disincentives, federal compliance difficulties and administrative burdens that accompany private foundations. We offer grantmaking support and due diligence of grant-seeking organizations and professional asset management of funds. Donors choose whether to be highly or peripherally involved in grantmaking. Take a look at our For Donors section for more information. How is the Community Foundation administered? A volunteer board of 25 skilled community leaders oversees the Foundation. Effective, focused committees assist in oversight of investments, legal issues and the Foundation's own grants cycle. A small professional staff implements the programs and donor services. What else does the Community Foundation do? The Foundation serves as a bridge between donor interests and the nonprofits doing the work. We offer workshops to assist nonprofit organizations in strengthening their operations. We work with community members on special initiatives and are a responsive leader addressing the issues that face our community. For more information, take a look at For Grants and Workshops. Can I make a deferred gift? The Foundation can offer assistance making estate plans benefiting the Foundation. We offer charitable gift annuities, sample bequest language and will gladly work with your estate planning attorney or tax advisor to help you meet your charitable and financial goals. For more information take a look at For Donors/Ways to Give. |
