What we do

The Foundation supports nonprofits through grants, training and advice (technical assistance), connects donor interests with community need, builds philanthropy in the community and is an authority on the nonprofits in Northern New Mexico.

Christa Coggins, Vice President for Community Philanthropy:  Contact Christa for information related to nonprofits in Santa Fe Community Foundation’s six-county service area.  Christa also directs our technical assistance workshop series, and is available to both donors or nonprofits seeking guidance.  Fluent in Spanish, French and Hassaniya, Christa’s area of expertise is in evaluation and outcomes measurement.  988-9715, ext. 2 or email Christa Coggins

Endowment

Council on Foundations definition:

"The principal amount of gifts and bequests that are accepted subject to a requirement that the principal be maintained intact and invested to create a source of income for a foundation. Donors may require that the principal remain intact in perpetuity or for a defined period."

Easy parenthetical:

Endowments are permanent funds on which the earnings are available for grants to nonprofit organizations.

Designated Agency Endowment

A nonprofit entrusts funds or a bequest to SFCF to invest, build and attract new donors and a percentage of that is paid out to the organization each year.

Technical Assistance

Seminars or workshops that help nonprofits operate more efficiently. Topics include financial management and developing board member skills.

Piñon Awards

A fall ceremony that recognizes exemplary work by nonprofits in the Foundation's five areas of interest — education, health and human services, civic affairs, arts and environment. Each winner receives a statue, a cash grant and is featured in a video tribute about its work. 2010 is the 24th year of the awards.
